A ten-year agricole from TimberCoast made on a pot still from fresh cane juice and aged in the Canary Islands in ex-bourbon, fruity and brandy-like with plum, mirabelle and grapes over a whisky-tinged edge, soft at 42 percent.
Description
TimberCoast bottles this Avontuur Voyage from fresh-pressed sugar cane juice distilled on a pot still, aged ten years in ex-bourbon in the Canary Islands. Agricole in method though made outside the French islands, it carries the cane-juice tradition to the Atlantic, where the ageing has given it a soft, fruit-driven maturity.
The profile leans toward orchard fruit and brandy: plum, mirabelle plum and a whisky-like note on the nose, then a palate of plum, mirabelle, grapes and more of that whisky edge. The pot still gives it a fuller body than a column agricole, and a decade in bourbon wood has rounded it considerably. Bottled at a soft 42 percent, it is a mellow, fruit-forward aged cane-juice rum with an unusual continental-island ageing story, suited to relaxed neat sipping where the plum and grape notes lead.
