A full proof 2004 Panamanian from the Belgian bottler Corman Collins, thirteen years in Ex-Bourbon at 60.2%, rich and spicy with butterscotch, vanilla and baked apple over a creme brulee finish, unusually weighty for Panama.
Description
Corman Collins Arturo Makasare 2004 is a Panamanian rum bottled at full strength from the 2004 vintage by a respected Belgian independent. Panama's column distilleries supply much of the independent world, and at thirteen years and cask strength this draws real depth from a base usually known for softness.
Distilled on column stills from molasses and aged in Ex-Bourbon oak, it shows a rich, spicy nose of butterscotch, roast and a nail polish lift, then butterscotch, vanilla and baked apple across a full, mouth filling palate, finishing on creme brulee and spice. One taster aptly called it Panama going Jamaica, a nod to its unexpected weight and spice. The strength is well integrated and the rum opens with a little water, giving a generous, cigar friendly sweetness from oak rather than additives. A characterful, full proof Panamanian for those who want more intensity than the country usually offers.
