A twenty-six-year Uitvlugt single cask from Silver Seal at 51.9%, unsweetened and dry, with leather, dried fruit and woody depth giving way to oak, dark chocolate and toasted allspice on a long finish.
Description
Silver Seal selects unsweetened single casks in the purist tradition, and this 1990 Uitvlugt reaches twenty-six years, a closed-era Demerara from the refined Savalle column marque. Bottled at cask strength, 51.9%, from ex-bourbon, it leans toward the drier, woodier end of the style despite Uitvlugt's usually cleaner profile.
The profile points to Port Mourant character in the glass, dry and astringent rather than overtly fruity, with the long tropical ageing pushing oak and spice forward. Expect leather, dried fruit and wood on the nose, then oak, dark chocolate and a toasted edge across the palate, finishing on allspice, more oak and a toasted warmth. It is a firm, full-bodied old Demerara that could carry even more weight, unsweetened and honest, made for drinkers who like their aged Guyana taut, spicy and wood-driven.
