A light Puerto Rican Bacardi aged ten years, gentle and oak led with vanilla, caramel, dried fruit and a peppery edge, column distilled and matured in ex-bourbon for a clean, easy sip at 40%.
Description
Bacardi Gran Reserva Diez is a ten year old rum from Bacardi in Puerto Rico, the house that effectively wrote the blueprint for the light Spanish style. It is molasses based and column distilled to a clean, relatively neutral spirit, so its flavour leans heavily on the wood, a familiar pattern for this tradition.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak, it offers concentrated American oak and gentle bourbon notes on the nose, then vanilla, caramel and dried fruit with a light peppery, woody edge and a touch of raisin and smoke on the finish. There is only mild sweetness and the body stays light and smooth at 40%. Within Bacardi's lineup it reads as one of the more mature and rewarding options, decent neat for easy sipping and dependable in a simple cocktail such as a Cuba Libre, without ever becoming demanding.
