Pott Der Gute Pott Echter Übersee Rum

Der Gute Pott is a long running German overseas rum, an Echter Ubersee blend of Caribbean stock bottled at a punchy 54 percent. It is a nostalgia heavy name that many grew up with, designed for warming punch and baking rather than thoughtful sipping.

The blend is young and simple, and the high strength is front and centre, with a nose of raisin, alcohol and a pungent burn moving into a hot palate of raisin, brown sugar and hay before a short, solvent tinged finish. There is a clear rum note under the heat, but little finesse or integration. This is best understood for what it is, an affordable, robust overproof that gives plenty of punch for the money in grog, rumtopf and traditional German punch, where its rough edges disappear into the mix.
