A dry, oak driven Nicaraguan single cask from Berry Bros & Rudd, a 13 Year Old bottled at a forceful 66.7% with dense wood, caramel, chocolate and resin pushing into an intense, drying finish, a serious pour for cask strength fans.
Description
Berry Bros & Rudd Rum for Haromex Dev. is a 13 Year Old Nicaraguan ron, a single cask from the long established London merchant Berry Bros & Rudd. Distilled on column stills and matured in ex-bourbon oak, it is bottled at a formidable cask strength of 66.7%, a world away from the smooth, sweet style usually associated with the region.
Nicaragua, home to Flor de Cana, tends toward cleaner, drier rum, and this bottling pushes that to a wood forward extreme: woody, caramel, chocolate and resin on the nose, then wood, chocolate, caramel and vanilla on a dense palate, closing dry, woody and intense. The high proof needs water, and the oak runs deep, giving an oak and red toned, characterful spirit rather than a solera style softie. This is a contemplative, dry, full proof Nicaraguan for experienced palates who want power and wood over sweetness, and it stands clearly apart from the Cihuatan and Zacapa school.
