A pre-1962 Cuban-profile rum bottled by the Jerez house Valdespino and laid down in Spanish bodega sherry casks, trading on dried fruit, almond and chocolate over creamy brown sugar, mild yet layered with a real sense of history at a comfortable 45%.
Description
Bottled by Valdespino, the long-established Jerez house, this carries an old-school Cuban profile from the pre-1962 era and a 1944 vintage marking on the label. Column-distilled from molasses, it was then matured in sherry casks in a Spanish bodega, a continental ageing path that works slowly and gently rather than with the fast, hot pull of tropical storage.
The sherry influence shows as dried fruit, buttery almond and a creamy sweetness rather than a heavy oxidative bomb, layering chocolate, tobacco and roasted wood over the cane core. On the palate it stays creamy and woody with brown sugar and dried apricot, mild in delivery but with real depth behind it. The result is a soft, sweet-leaning sipper with a genuine sense of history, one for slow evenings rather than mixing.
