A cask strength Worthy Park from 2010, dry and woody with banana, light tropical fruit, chocolate, spice and smoke over controlled esters, a single cask bottled by Rum Nation at 61.2% that opens up with water.
Description
Worthy Park is St. Catherine's clean, precise 100% pot still estate, known for moderate, well-controlled esters rather than solvent extremes. This 2010 single cask was bottled by the Italian house Rum Nation, a well-regarded name whose releases range from softer Spanish-style bottlings to its drier Rare Rums tier, into which a cask-strength Jamaican like this falls.
Distilled on the pot still from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon casks, it is bottled unsweetened at 61.2%. The nose carries glue, ester, banana and honey, the palate turns spicy, peppery and molasses-rich with banana, and the finish stays dry, woody and ester-edged, with chocolate and smoke surfacing through. This is a dry, oak-forward Worthy Park where the esters are kept on a leash, the gourmand chocolate note adding depth, and a splash of water helps it open. Strong value for a cask strength single cask, it favours wood and spice over wild funk.
