A young Guadeloupe agricole from Karukera, an unaged-leaning gold made from fresh cane juice and bottled at a soft 40%, gentle and round with caramel, vanilla, peach and a clear sugar-cane sap note.
Description
Karukera, relaunched in 2002, is a Guadeloupe agricole house working from fresh-pressed sugar-cane juice under the island's IGP. This Gold is a young, lightly aged blend distilled on a column still, made for easy drinking rather than long contemplation.
Bottled at 40% and unsweetened, it pours soft and round, with caramel, vanilla and a fruity, schnapps-like lift on the nose, a gentle palate of peach and rounded warmth, and a finish marked by fresh sugar cane, vanilla and light wood. The low strength keeps it approachable but also restrained, and at its core it shows the green cane character of agricole rather than the sweetness of a molasses rum. It works best lengthened in a Ti' Punch or a simple long drink, where its cane freshness comes forward.
