A very sweet, soft Venezuelan from Cacique carrying an eight year statement, all vanilla, caramel, toffee and milk chocolate at 40%, an unchallenging dessert pour rather than a structured ron.
Description
Cacique 500 Extra Añejo Gran Reserva is a Venezuelan ron from Destilerías Unidas, made in the smooth, dessert leaning DOC style the country is known for. It carries an eight year age statement, ex-bourbon maturation and the usual soft 40%, and aims squarely at easy, sweet drinking.
The spirit is light column still molasses, and the character is sweetness from end to end. Vanilla, caramel and chocolate run through the nose, the palate echoes caramel, vanilla and chocolate with a buttery, almost floral softness, and the finish stays on caramel, chocolate and sugar. There is little obvious oak grip to balance it, so the honest description is very sweet, soft and simple. Sugar is not disclosed but the profile makes its presence plain. This is a relaxed, dessert style sipper for drinkers who want comfort over depth, and it will read as too sweet for anyone chasing a drier ron.
