A young Jamaican from Compagnie des Indes at 46%, five years old with an Islay whisky finish, peat, smoke and tar over molasses, with banana and Jamaican funk holding in the background.
Description
Compagnie des Indes, the respected French terroir-led bottler, built Boulet de Canon 4 as a young Jamaica rum with a peated Islay whisky finish, aged five years in ex-bourbon before the smoke cask and bottled at 46%. The Worthy Park character shows clearly on the nose, the single-estate distillery's clean fruit meeting a dominant peat influence.
The aroma leans smoky with peat, tar and molasses, the palate round with molasses, peat and smoke, the finish carrying banana, a whisky note and more smoke. The Islay cask is the loudest voice here, especially on the palate, with the Jamaican funk reduced to a fruity backdrop that keeps the smoke from fully taking over. At 46% it is approachable and notably round for the style. Unsweetened and openly a finish-driven release, this is a peat-meets-rum crossover for drinkers who enjoy Islay whisky and want that smoke wrapped around young, fruity Jamaican spirit rather than a pure funk bomb.
