El Dorado 8 comes from Demerara Distillers, the single surviving Guyanese producer that keeps the country's famous heritage stills running at Diamond. The age statement marks the youngest rum in this molasses blend, matured in ex-bourbon oak, and it offers a genuine taste of Demerara character at an accessible level.

Expect caramel, brown sugar, vanilla and a touch of dark fruit and oak, toasty and rounded on the palate with a woody, cocoa edged finish. El Dorado has long sat in the sweeter, dosed camp, and the youngest expressions in particular drink soft and dessert like, so this is honest, rounded sweetness rather than a dry sipper, though sugar levels in the range have come down over time.
