A dessert style Costa Rican solera at 40 percent, smooth and sweet with caramel, vanilla, raisin and notes of coffee and chocolate, an easy evening sipper built for comfort more than complexity.

Description
Centenario is the long running rum from Fabrica Nacional de Licores in Costa Rica, presented here as a solera, a fractional blending system borrowed from sherry where older and younger rums marry in stacked casks. A solera reference is not a straight age statement, so this is best read as a solera blend rather than a fixed number of years in oak.
The house style is mild and dessert leaning, and this molasses rum follows suit at a soft 40 percent. The nose is vanilla, caramel, raisin and oak, the palate is sweet and fruity with burnt sugar, and the finish brings nutty, candied and dark chocolate notes with a touch of coffee. It is smooth and gentle throughout, an after dinner pour for drinkers who want a rounded, sweet Spanish style sipper. Honest framing matters here, this is comfort and easy sweetness rather than depth or challenge.
