A very smooth, sweet Colombian rum aged eight years at 40 percent, finished in coffee liqueur casks for vanilla, caramel, milk chocolate and coffee, a cosy dessert pour rather than a complexity hunter’s bottle.

Description
Hacienda Coloma is a Colombian brand in the Spanish style, where light column distilled molasses spirit leans on the barrel for its character. This eight year old is bottled at a soft 40 percent and finished in casks that carried coffee liqueur, a choice that steers the whole profile toward dessert.
That coffee liqueur cask is the defining quirk, and it shows. The nose is vanilla, caramel, sweet notes and coffee, the palate stays smooth and sweet with milk chocolate, and the finish brings honey, young wood and more coffee. The result is very easy and noticeably sweet, closer to a coffee and chocolate treat than a dry aged rum. To be straight about it, this is a cosy after dinner or dessert rum that goes down without any burn, ideal for drinkers who enjoy sweet, liqueur tinged sippers rather than those chasing dry complexity.
