Description
A Glendronach of a 17 year old chosen by Creative Whisky Company, distilled in 1994, from cask 1327, at 56.5%, one of 311 bottles. Glendronach is a Highland single malt known for its heavy Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez sherry maturation. Its water is the Dronac Burn, which also gave the distillery its name. The distillery was an early champion of sherry cask maturation, its malt charming Edinburgh society from the start.
The spirit was run slowly off the spirit still, for a weighty make built to take active Spanish oak. An Oloroso cask held it, drawing the rich spirit on over the years. Into oxidative maturity, slow air builds ripe esters and a darker chocolate, fig and date depth. The wood frames the spirit without ever stripping the full Highland body. The full bodied spirit takes active wood well, carrying its dark sugars through the years.
At 56.5%, undiluted, it is dark and full. A rich, sherried sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. It is full and fruity, the spirit carrying the cask. A long finish carries raisin, chocolate and a treacle. This is Glendronach's deep, fruity Highland style.
