Description
A Glenburgie of an 8 year old chosen by Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers, distilled in 2012, at 47.5%, one of 1410 bottles. Glenburgie is a Speyside single malt, owned by Chivas Brothers and one of the larger Speyside distilleries. The old distillery was demolished and rebuilt in 2004, only the little stone office left standing. It was expanded to six stills after the rebuild, one of the bigger distilleries in the group.
Worked unhurried through the stillhouse, for a light body with a gentle, waxy edge. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the American oak lending vanilla and a light honey. Young and extractive, the cask sheds vanillin and toasted sugars over the clean, fruity spirit. Years in oak deepen the spirit to old gold, the body growing rounder and waxier with time. First fill wood drives the maturation, the cask clear in the spirit. Built for the blender's art, the make ages with quiet grace as a single malt.
At its natural 47.5% it is full and fruity. A soft, orchard led sweetness with a floral lift, lifted by a soft oak. The mouthfeel is light, a faint waxiness carrying the fruit. The finish is light, fruity and clean. This is a fruity Speyside malt rarely seen on its own.
