Canvas Blended Malt CB (Compass Box) is a blended malt Scotch from Compass Box. It vats malts from more than one distillery, Glenburgie among them. It has been a core malt of the Ballantine's blend since Hiram Walker bought it in 1936. It was founded in 1810 as Kilnflat by William Paul, taking the Glenburgie name in 1878. Its make has long fed big blends like Old Smuggler down the decades.

Glenburgie lends a light, fruity, grassy Speyside note. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the American oak lending vanilla and a light honey. Maturation runs slow and even in the cool Speyside warehouses. A soft waxiness from the spirit carries a thread through the maturation. Built for the blender's art, the make ages with quiet grace as a single malt. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit. The spirit deepens with time, the cask drawing out a soft beeswax. Active wood frames the fruit without ever crowding the Speyside spirit.

At 46% it is smooth and fruity. Apple, pear and a soft honey run through it. The mouthfeel is light, a faint waxiness carrying the fruit. The finish is rounded, fruity and clean. A characterful blended malt Scotch.
