Ian Macleod bottled this GlenAllachie, a 10 year old, distilled in 2006, from cask 92713 / 92715, at 43%, one of 970 bottles. GlenAllachie is a Speyside single malt, founded in 1967 below Ben Rinnes near Aberlour. Its stills were doubled from two to four within months of opening, the lyne arms angled down for a fuller spirit.
Run slowly off the spirit still, shaping a rich Speyside body with real weight. It was fully matured in a Red Wine cask, the wood deep in the rich spirit. In integration coconut and vanilla knit with the malt, the orchard notes deepening to sultana, date and chocolate. The full spirit deepens with time, the cask drawing out its darker register. Years in oak deepen the spirit to a darker gold, the body growing rounder and more resinous with time. Long ageing turns the fresh notes towards date, prune and a dark, bittersweet chocolate.
At 43% it is smooth and rich. Baked apple, honey and a dark chocolate, with red berry and a dry spice from the cask. The mouthfeel is full and coating, the fruit dark and sweet. The finish runs long, full and warming. This is a full bodied Speyside single malt of real richness.
