Description
This Glen Scotia was bottled by Thosop Import, a 20 year old, distilled in 1992, bottled at 48.2%, one of 162 bottles. Glen Scotia is a Campbeltown single malt from a town once called the whisky capital of the world. It has been owned by the Loch Lomond Group since the 1990s, after many changes of hands.
The spirit was distilled slowly in a single pair of stills for an oily, coastal make, building a maritime character of sea salt and oil. An Oloroso cask held it, shaping the coastal spirit over the years. At oxidative maturity aldehydes lend a nutty edge while ellagitannins add a gentle, drying grip over the oil. Refill oak lets the salty, oily Glen Scotia character lead the way. Its malt comes from Greencore Maltings in southwest Scotland. A long ferment gives a fruity make that ages with a coastal, oily grace. The slow distillation and shell and tube condensers give the oily Glen Scotia body.
At its natural 48.2% it is concentrated. A briny, oily coastal fruit, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. The texture is oily and coating, the fruit lifted by vanilla. The finish is long, oily and salted. This is a maritime Campbeltown single malt.
