Description
This Glen Scotia was bottled by Kintra Whisky, a 9 year old, distilled in 2008, from cask 369, bottled at 55.9%, one of 239 bottles. Glen Scotia is a Campbeltown single malt made on Crosshill Loch water in the Wee Toon. Its Victoriana and single cask releases have won the distillery wide acclaim.
The spirit was distilled slow for the salty, oily Glen Scotia style, building a maritime character of sea salt and oil. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the coastal spirit. In these extractive early years the oak gives vanillin as vanilla and oak lactones as coconut over a briny, oily spirit. Years in oak round the spirit, the brine and citrus deepening to a salted toffee. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. The oily, coastal spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and brine to the fore. Its malt comes from Greencore Maltings in southwest Scotland.
At a natural 55.9% it is full and oily. An oily, salted sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Citrus, brine and a salted toffee fill the middle. A briny finish ends on citrus and a soft oak. This is Glen Scotia's coastal, briny Campbeltown style.
