Description
An 11 year old Glen Scotia from the German retailer Whisky.de, distilled in 2008, bottled at 46%, one of 1800 bottles. Glen Scotia is a coastal, briny Campbeltown malt, founded in 1832 on the Kintyre peninsula. Its long ferment, averaging well over a hundred hours, builds a fruity, coastal character.
The spirit was drawn off the stills after a long ferment for a fruity, briny spirit, for an oily spirit with a coastal, salted edge. It was matured in a Port cask, the wood working into the oily malt. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into a rounded vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper citrus and a salted toffee. A gentle maturation suits the oily make, the sea salt and toffee growing with time. The Glen was added to the Scotia name around 1930, the distillery dating to 1832. The maritime setting on the Kintyre coast threads salt and brine through the spirit.
At 46% it is oily, briny and smooth. A briny, oily coastal fruit, with red berry, plum and a dry spice from the cask. The texture is oily and coating, the fruit lifted by vanilla. The finish is long, oily and salted. This is Glen Scotia's coastal, briny Campbeltown style.
