Glen Moray 8 Years Old 2015 Cask #7221 (The Vintage Malt Whisky Co Ltd.)

This Glen Moray was bottled by The Vintage Malt Whisky Co Ltd, an 8 year old, distilled in 2015, from cask 7221, bottled at 58.5%, one of 390 bottles. Glen Moray is a fruity Speyside malt made on River Lossie water at Elgin. It was founded in 1897 in the converted Elgin West Brewery, on the banks of the River Lossie.

It was distilled light and fruity in the Glen Moray style, for a clean make of orchard fruit and a soft honey. It was finished in a Marsala cask, the wood layered over the light malt. In these extractive early years the oak gives vanillin as vanilla and oak lactones as coconut over bright green apple and pear. The clean, fruity spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit to the fore. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. Refill oak lets the light, fruity Glen Moray character lead the way.

At a hearty 58.5% it carries real weight. Pear, honey and a soft malt, with a raisined, herbal sweetness from the cask. It is fresh and fruity, the light spirit shining through. A long, fruity finish carries a green apple and a soft spice. This is the easy, fruity malt of Elgin.
