Description
A Glen Moray of a 10 year old chosen by That Boutique-y Whisky Company, bottled at 48.6%, one of 376 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt from Elgin, known for its light, fruity and accessible style. It has been owned since 2008 by the French house La Martiniquaise.
Made on River Lossie water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, for a clean make of orchard fruit and a soft honey. Most Glen Moray begins in American oak ex-Bourbon, the base for its cask finishes. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into a rounded vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper apple and pear. A pioneer of wine cask finishing, Glen Moray has long layered fruit over its light malt. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards dried fruit, honey and a soft spice. The light spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and dried fruit.
At cask strength 48.6% it is full bodied. Apple, pear and a soft vanilla, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A soft fruit and a gentle oak give it depth. A long, fruity finish carries a green apple and a soft spice. This is Glen Moray, a pioneer of cask finishing.
