The bottler Phil and Simon Thompson bottled this Glen Moray, a 28 year old, distilled in 1990, bottled at 45.9%, one of 78 bottles. Glen Moray is a fresh, fruity Speyside malt from the town of Elgin in Moray. It is known for excellent value, with age statements priced more keenly than most.

It was worked through the stills for a light, sweet make, giving a clean, sweet Speyside spirit. Finished in an Oloroso cask, the wood building over the fruity, light spirit. In the oxidative, evaporative years concentration brings dried fruit, honey and a waxy depth over the apple. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. It runs a large still house at Elgin, expanded over the years to meet demand. The clean, fruity spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit to the fore. Its light, fresh spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum.

At 45.9% it is light and soft. Pear, honey and a soft malt, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Pear, honey and a creamy toffee fill the middle. A long, fruity finish carries a green apple and a soft spice. This is a Speyside single malt of real value.
