Description
From the bottler Moon-Import, a 29 year old Glen Moray, distilled in 1959, from cask 1488, bottled at 46%, one of 336 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt known for vanilla, honey and orchard fruit. Its water is drawn from the River Lossie, which runs past the distillery at Elgin.
It was made on River Lossie water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, for the light, fruity make Glen Moray is known for. Maturation finished in an Oloroso cask, layered over the light Glen Moray make. Through the evaporative decades the spirit concentrates, esters folding into dried fruit, beeswax and a soft honey. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards dried fruit, honey and a soft spice. Maturation in the bonded warehouses at Elgin is slow and steady. Most of its malt matures first in American oak ex-Bourbon before any cask finish. Glen Moray has long made an accessible, fruity Speyside in the classic style.
Reduced to 46%, it is mellow. A fresh, fruity sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. The texture is light and clean, the fruit lifted by vanilla. The close is light and clean, fruit over a gentle oak. This is a Speyside single malt of real value.
