Description
A Glen Moray of a 16 year old chosen by the Huntly bottler Duncan Taylor, distilled in 2008, from cask 7041249, bottled at 49.9%, one of 78 bottles. Glen Moray is a fruity Speyside malt made on River Lossie water at Elgin. It is known for excellent value, with age statements priced more keenly than most.
The spirit was worked through the stills for a light, sweet make, for a clean make of orchard fruit and a soft honey. Maturation finished in an Oloroso cask, layered over the light Glen Moray make. Into oxidative maturity, slow air ingress builds fruity ethyl esters (apple and pear) and a honeyed depth. The light spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear. It was built on Gallow Hill at Elgin, the old site of the town's hangings.
At 49.9%, undiluted, it is deep and fruity. Apple, pear and a soft vanilla, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Beneath it run green apple, pear and a soft vanilla. A long, fruity finish carries a green apple and a soft spice. This is a light Speyside malt from the banks of the Lossie.
