Description
This Glen Moray was bottled by the Campbeltown house Cadenhead, a 19 year old, distilled in 1998, bottled at 50.5%, one of 156 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside malt from Elgin, the heart of the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends. Its make is a key malt in the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends.
The spirit was made on River Lossie water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, for the light, fruity make Glen Moray is known for. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the gentle American oak letting the light fruit lead. At oxidative maturity vanillin and lactones are fully expressed, the light fruit deepening to honey. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. It has been owned since 2008 by the French house La Martiniquaise. The accessible, fruity make is the base for the distillery's many cask finishes. River Lossie water and the tall stills give the light Glen Moray make.
At its natural 50.5% it is concentrated. Baked apple, vanilla and a creamy toffee, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The texture is light and clean, the fruit lifted by vanilla. The close is light and clean, fruit over a gentle oak. This is a light, fruity Speyside single malt.
