Description
This Glen Moray was bottled by the Campbeltown house Cadenhead, a 16 year old, distilled in 1998, bottled at 55.6%, one of 258 bottles. Glen Moray is a fruity Speyside malt made on River Lossie water at Elgin. Most of its malt matures first in American oak ex-Bourbon before any cask finish.
The spirit was made on River Lossie water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, for a light, easy spirit with a soft malt. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the light spirit. At oxidative maturity vanillin and lactones are fully expressed, the light fruit deepening to honey. The accessible, fruity make is the base for the distillery's many cask finishes. The light spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum. Glen Moray has long made an accessible, fruity Speyside in the classic style. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and dried fruit.
At its natural 55.6% it is concentrated. Pear, honey and a soft malt, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is light, the fruit carried on a clean body. Apple, pear and a soft oak see out the finish. This is Glen Moray's clean, accessible Speyside style.
