From the Campbeltown house Cadenhead, a 17 year old Glen Moray, distilled in 1992, bottled at 57%, one of 262 bottles. Glen Moray, founded in 1897 in a former brewery, is one of Speyside's best loved malts. It was a pioneer of wine cask finishing, working with Chardonnay casks back in the 1990s.

The spirit was run through the stills on River Lossie water for a light make, for a light, easy spirit with a soft malt. Finished in a Rum cask, the wood building over the fruity, light spirit. At oxidative maturity vanillin and lactones are fully expressed, the light fruit deepening to honey. The light spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum. River Lossie water and the tall stills give the light Glen Moray make. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. Maturation in the bonded warehouses at Elgin is slow and steady.

At a hearty 57% it carries real weight. Green apple, vanilla and a soft honey, with a soft brown sugar and a tropical fruit from the cask. Soft orchard fruit and a creamy vanilla sit behind the cask. It finishes light, fresh and fruity. This is a Speyside single malt of real value.
