Description
A 14 year old Glen Moray from the bottler Brave New Spirits, distilled in 2007, from cask 6242, bottled at 56.8%, one of 223 bottles. Glen Moray, founded in 1897 in a former brewery, is one of Speyside's best loved malts. Its water is drawn from the River Lossie, which runs past the distillery at Elgin.
Distilled from unpeated malt in copper pot stills, for a light, easy spirit with a soft malt. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin lending vanilla under the apple. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the light, fruity spirit growing rounder. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Glen Moray warehouses at Elgin. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and dried fruit. It was a pioneer of wine cask finishing, working with Chardonnay casks back in the 1990s. The accessible, fruity make is the base for the distillery's many cask finishes.
At a natural 56.8% it is full and fruity. Green apple, vanilla and a soft honey, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Pear, honey and a creamy toffee fill the middle. A fresh finish ends on apple and a soft oak. This is Glen Moray's clean, accessible Speyside style.
