Description
An official release of Glen Moray, a 17 year old, from 2005, at 58.3%, 228 bottles in all. Glen Moray is a light, sweet Speyside malt, founded in 1897 on the banks of the River Lossie. It runs a large still house at Elgin, expanded over the years to meet demand.
Worked through the stills for a light, sweet make, building the fresh Glen Moray style. Maturation finished in a Burgundy cask, layered over the light Glen Moray make. Into oxidative maturity, slow air ingress builds fruity ethyl esters (apple and pear) and a honeyed depth. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Glen Moray warehouses at Elgin. Maturation in the bonded warehouses at Elgin is slow and steady. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit.
Bottled at a cask strength 58.3%, it is rich. Green apple, honey and a gentle oak, with a soft red berry and an earthy edge from the cask. It is fresh and fruity, the light spirit shining through. Apple, pear and a soft oak see out the finish. This is a fresh, fruity Speyside single malt.
