A Glen Mhor of a 24 year old from the Italian bottler Sestante, at 40%. A full, oily malt of apple, pear and a soft spice. Its make went largely to the blenders; single malt is rare. Its worm tubs gave the full, oily body Glen Mhor was known for. One of three Inverness distilleries, with Glen Albyn and Millburn, all now gone. This is one of Inverness’s vanished single malts.

Description
The Italian bottler Sestante bottled this Glen Mhor, a 24 year old, distilled in 1963, bottled at 40%. Glen Mhor, a lost Highland distillery by the Caledonian Canal, fell silent in 1983. It was closed in the same cuts that took Glen Albyn, Brora and Banff.
This was drawn off the stills into worm tubs for the full, oily Glen Mhor make, the worm tubs lending a full, oily weight. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the gentle American oak letting the full spirit lead. In the oxidative, evaporative years concentration brings dried fruit, fig and a waxy, oily depth over the spirit. The worm tubs gave a full, oily spirit, less copper contact leaving real weight in the make. It stood between the Caledonian Canal and the railway in Inverness. It passed to the Distillers Company in 1972 and was closed in 1983. Its make went largely into blends; single malt Glen Mhor is rare and mostly from independents. Closed in 1983 and demolished in 1986, its profile is fixed for good.
At an approachable 40% it is soft and full. A rich, oily fruitiness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. It is rich and oily, the full spirit shining through. A long, oily finish carries a dried fruit. This is a full, oily Highland single malt of real age.
