Description
From the bottler Murray McDavid, a 27 year old Glen Keith, distilled in 1993, from cask 82838/39, bottled at 51.2%, one of 642 bottles. Glen Keith is a light, fruity Speyside malt, built in 1957 as Seagram's experimental distillery. Its first permanent single malt was released in 2017, the Distillery Edition.
The spirit was distilled from unpeated malt in tall, narrowing stills, building a light, fruity character of green apple and pear. Maturation came in an Oloroso cask, layered over the light Glen Keith make. At this evaporative stage ellagitannins lend a drying structure while oxidation builds a richer, tropical fruit. Balloch Hill water and the tall stills give the light Glen Keith make. It sits within sight of Strathisla, the oldest distillery in Scotland. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and tropical fruit. It was built in 1957 by Seagram on the site of a meal mill, directly behind Strathisla.
At cask strength 51.2% it is full bodied. A light, orchard fruit and citrus, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A baked apple and a gentle spice lift it. The finish is long, fruity and clean. This is a clean, fruity Speyside single malt.
