Description
A Glen Keith of a 26 year old chosen by the bottler Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers, distilled in 1998, from cask 149563, bottled at 55.8%, one of 160 bottles. Glen Keith is a Speyside single malt made behind Strathisla, mostly for the Chivas blends. It ran triple distillation from the start, switching to double distillation by the 1980s.
The spirit was made on Balloch Hill water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, building a light, fruity character of green apple and pear. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the fresh, fruity character to the fore. In the oxidative, evaporative years concentration brings tropical fruit, honey and a waxy depth over the apple. Balloch Hill water and the tall stills give the light Glen Keith make. Refill oak lets the light, fruity Glen Keith character lead the way. Its tall, narrowing stills give a light, fruity Speyside spirit.
At a natural 55.8% it is full and fruity. Apple, pear and a soft vanilla, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Pear, citrus and a creamy vanilla fill the middle. A fresh finish ends on apple and a soft oak. This is a light Speyside single malt from the town of Keith.
