Description
A Glen Keith of a 21 year old chosen by the bottler Moon-Import, distilled in 1967, from cask 1417, bottled at 46%, one of 360 bottles. Glen Keith is a Speyside single malt from Chivas Brothers, light and sweet in style. It was built in 1957 by Seagram on the site of a meal mill, directly behind Strathisla.
The spirit was distilled light and fruity in the Glen Keith style, for the light, fruity make Glen Keith is known for. First fill bourbon gave a fuller vanilla and a touch of coconut from the lactones. At oxidative maturity vanillin and lactones are fully expressed, the light fruit deepening to honey. The clean, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear. It sits within sight of Strathisla, the oldest distillery in Scotland. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards tropical fruit, honey and a soft spice. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and tropical fruit.
Reduced to 46%, it is mellow. Green apple, pear and a soft malt, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is light, the fruit carried on a clean body. Apple, pear and a soft oak see out the finish. This is a light, fruity Speyside single malt.
