Glen Keith 30 Years Old 1993 (Old Malt Cask)

From the Glasgow bottler Hunter Laing, a 30 year old Glen Keith, distilled in 1993, bottled at 50%, one of 151 bottles. Glen Keith is a Speyside single malt from Keith, the first new Speyside distillery since the 1898 crash. It was the first distillery in Scotland to use gas fired direct heating.

It was made on Balloch Hill water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, for the light, fruity make Glen Keith is known for. First fill bourbon gave a fuller vanilla and a touch of coconut from the lactones. Ethereal and fragile, decades draw the light malt to a honeyed, waxy delicacy of sotolon, tropical fruit and old oak. Built for the blender's art, the spirit ages with grace as a single malt. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. Refill oak lets the light, fruity Glen Keith character lead the way. Its water is drawn from the Balloch Hill spring above Keith.

At 50%, undiluted, it is deep and fruity. A fresh, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Pear, citrus and a creamy vanilla fill the middle. The finish runs light, fruity and clean. This is Glen Keith's clean, fruity Speyside style.
