Meadowside Blending bottled this Fettercairn, a 26 year old, distilled in 1989, from cask 1369, bottled at 47.7%, one of 242 bottles. Fettercairn is a Highland single malt from the foot of the Cairngorms in Aberdeenshire, known for its tropical fruit style. It uses unpeated malt and matures mostly in American oak ex-Bourbon casks.

It was drawn off the stills, the cooling rings raising reflux for a fruity spirit, for a clean make of pineapple and citrus. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the American oak letting the fruit lead. In the oxidative, evaporative years concentration brings dried tropical fruit, a roasted coffee and a soft spice. Maturation on site in the Fettercairn dunnage warehouses is slow and steady. John Gladstone's son William became Prime Minister and reformed the taxation of whisky. Refill oak lets the light, tropical Fettercairn character lead the way.

At a hearty 47.7% it carries real weight. Mango, citrus and a soft honey, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Soft tropical fruit and a vanilla sit behind the cask. The close is light and warming, fruit over a gentle oak. This is the light, fruit driven malt of Fettercairn.
