The Yamazaki 55 Year Old is one of the most rare and remarkable releases in the world of whisky, representing over five decades of aging and history. Released in 2020, it became the oldest expression ever produced by Suntory, composed of whiskies distilled in the 1960s. A combination of whisky aged in Mizunara oak casks from 1960 and white oak casks from 1964, the 55-year maturation imparts incredible depth and complexity. Rich notes of sandalwood, incense, and a slight smokiness from the Mizunara oak are complemented by subtle sweetness and dried fruit flavors from the white oak. Bottled at 46% ABV, the Yamazaki 55 is revered for its nuanced, sophisticated profile that can only be achieved through extended aging.

Description
What sets the Yamazaki 55 Year Old apart is not only its extraordinary age but also its extreme rarity. The initial release was limited to just 100 bottles in 2020, followed by a second small release in 2021, making it highly coveted among collectors. Each bottle is a true work of art, presented in a stunning crystal decanter that reflects the whisky's exceptional nature. The decanter is carefully engraved with the word "Yamazaki" and the age statement, and is adorned with gold dust and lacquer, symbolizing the traditional Japanese aesthetic. The neck of the bottle is wrapped in handcrafted Echizen washi paper and tied with a braided cord made from Kyoto silk, further emphasizing the heritage and meticulous attention to detail behind its presentation.
The bottle is housed in a luxurious box made from Japanese Mizunara wood, the same wood used to age the whisky itself, creating a thematic connection between the container and its precious contents. The box’s elegant design is minimalist yet refined, with smooth, natural wood grains that highlight the connection to Japanese tradition. Inside, the whisky rests securely within a soft, protective lining. This presentation makes the Yamazaki 55 Year Old not just a bottle of whisky but a piece of art, steeped in cultural significance and reserved for the most discerning collectors.
