he Hibiki 30 Year Old, first released in 1997, was a significant milestone for Suntory, representing the oldest blend in their Hibiki range and one of the oldest blended whiskies in Japan at the time. It featured a meticulously crafted blend of malt whiskies from the Yamazaki and Hakushu distilleries, combined with grain whisky from the Chita distillery, all aged for a minimum of 30 years. Maturation took place in a combination of American oak, sherry casks, and the rare Mizunara oak, which imparted deep, complex flavors with notes of dried fruit, spice, and rich wood. Its release was seen as a testament to Suntory’s long-term commitment to whisky production, given the difficulty of maintaining such aged stock.
