Description
The Dutch bottler van Wees bottled this Edradour, a 10 year old, distilled in 2008, from cask 329, bottled at 60.9%, one of 277 bottles. Edradour is a full bodied, oily Highland malt made on Ben Vrackie water at Pitlochry. It is one of the smallest traditional distilleries in Scotland, long run by just two or three hands.
Drawn off the tiny stills and cooled in worm tubs for an oily make, giving the full bodied, creamy Highland spirit. A Sauternes cask held it, shaping the oily spirit over the years. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the malt, the nutty chocolate deepening. Refill oak lets the rich, oily Edradour character lead the way. The full bodied spirit shows the cask clearly, the sherry and oak to the fore. It was bought in 2002 by Andrew Symington of the independent bottler Signatory Vintage.
At its natural 60.9% it is rich and full bodied. Dried fruit, fig and a creamy vanilla, with honeyed apricot and a candied citrus from the cask. A dried fruit and a polished oak give it depth. The finish runs long, nutty and warming. This is the little gem of the Highlands at Pitlochry.
