Edradour 19 Years Old 1971 Cask #3571-2 (Moon-Import)

From the Italian bottler Moon-Import, a 19 year old Edradour, distilled in 1971, from cask 3571-2, bottled at 46%, one of 600 bottles. Edradour is a Highland single malt from a 19th century farm distillery run by a handful of hands. Its water comes from the Ben Vrackie springs in the hills above the distillery.

Distilled from unpeated malt in tiny copper stills and worm tubs, giving the full bodied, creamy Highland spirit. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin lending vanilla under the fruit. Into oxidative maturity, slow air ingress builds fruity ethyl esters (apple and dried fruit) and a nutty, chocolate depth. Maturation in the dunnage warehouses at Pitlochry is slow and steady. Active wood frames the rich fruit without overwhelming the oily Highland spirit. It keeps the old ways, with an open cast iron mash tun, Oregon pine washbacks and worm tub condensers.

At 46% it is rich, nutty and full. Chocolate, dried fruit and a waxy oil, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The texture is oily and creamy, the fruit lifted by vanilla. A long, nutty finish carries dried fruit and a soft spice. This is Edradour's full bodied, sherried Highland style.
