Description
A 12 year old Edradour, a distillery bottling, from 2011, cask 92-93, 95-99, 101, at 48.2%, 2840 bottles in all. Edradour is a Highland single malt from the tiny farm distillery at Pitlochry, long called Scotland's smallest. Its water comes from the Ben Vrackie springs in the hills above the distillery.
Worked through Oregon pine washbacks and tiny stills for a rich, oily spirit, for a full, oily make of dried fruit and chocolate. Maturation came in a Burgundy cask, layered over the rich Edradour make. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the malt, the nutty chocolate deepening. The tiny stills and worm tubs give an oily spirit that takes the cask well. A 2018 expansion added a second still house, the production still small and traditional. Years in oak round the spirit, the dried fruit and chocolate deepening over the oily core.
At 48.2%, undiluted, it is deep and concentrated. A full, fruity sweetness, with a soft red berry and an earthy edge from the cask. A dried fruit and a polished oak give it depth. The finish is long, oily and gently spiced. This is Edradour, one of Scotland's smallest distilleries.
