This Deanston was bottled by the bottler Kirsch Import, a 10 year old, at 58.7%. Green apple, honey and a waxy malt run through it, with red berry, plum and a dry spice from the cask. Water comes from the River Teith, which also drives the distillery turbine. It is the only distillery in Scotland to make all its own power from the river. This is Deanston’s waxy, fruity Highland style.

Description
From the bottler Kirsch Import, a 10 year old Deanston, distilled in 2012, from cask KI-0009, bottled at 58.7%. Deanston is a soft, malty Highland single malt from the old Adelphi cotton mill at Doune. Its flagship is the 12 year old, bottled unchillfiltered at 46.3%.
The spirit was distilled from unpeated Scottish barley in bulbous copper stills, the long ferment building a fruity, estery character. Maturation came in a Port cask, layered over the fruity Deanston make. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey. The waxy texture is the Deanston signature, carried through the years in cask. The distillery sits on the River Teith near Doune, between Stirling and the Highlands. It runs an open top mash tun, two wash and two spirit stills of a bulbous shape.
At 58.7%, undiluted, it is deep and honeyed. A bright, honeyed orchard fruit, with red berry, plum and a dry spice from the cask. The texture is soft and waxy, the fruit lifted by vanilla. The finish runs long, fruity and warming. This is Deanston, the mill turned distillery on the Teith.
