Description
The bottler Brave New Spirits bottled this Dalmunach, a 6 year old, distilled in 2016, from cask 8882, bottled at 60.2%, one of 44 bottles. Dalmunach is a young Speyside single malt, fresh and fruity, rarely bottled on its own. The name comes from the Dalmunach pool, a stretch of the Spey beside the distillery.
The spirit was drawn off four wash and four spirit stills in their circular cluster, giving the clean, fresh Speyside spirit. A Pedro Ximenez cask gave the young spirit raisin, date and a treacle sweetness. Young and extractive, the cask sheds vanillin (vanilla) and toasted sugars (light caramel) into the fresh make, the spirit still vibrant. The fresh, fruity make is a model of the new Speyside style. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the warehouses by the Spey. Refill oak lets the fresh Dalmunach character lead, apple and citrus beneath.
Bottled at a cask strength 60.2%, it is rich. Green apple, citrus and a soft vanilla, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. The texture is light and clean, the fruit lifted by vanilla. A fresh, fruity finish carries a citrus lift. This is a light, fruity Speyside single malt.
