Timorous Beastie 40 Years Old is a blended malt Scotch from Douglas Laing. It marries single malts from more than one distillery, Dalmore among them. Most expressions are finished in aged sherry wood, giving orange, chocolate and treacle.

Dalmore's full bodied, oily malt adds weight and a dried fruit depth. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, vanilla and a soft orange behind the rich spirit. Dalmore's sherry comes largely from the aged Oloroso casks of Gonzalez Byass. The distillery stands on the firth near Alness, in the Northern Highlands. The thick spirit shows the sherry clearly, dried fruit and orange over a malty depth. The cool Highland air on the firth gives a slow, even maturation. Water comes from the River Averon, drawn from Loch Morie in the hills above. Its long time master distiller Richard Paterson, known as The Nose, shaped the rich house style.

At its natural 54.7% it is concentrated. Orange, dried fruit and a dark chocolate richness run through it, full and sherried. It is full and rich, the opulent spirit shining through. It finishes rich, malty and warm. A characterful blended malt Scotch.
