A 24 year old Dallas Dhu, a distillery release, from 1970, at 60.6%. Dallas Dhu, founded in 1898 and named the dark water valley, closed in 1983. The very last cask was filled on the sixteenth of March 1983, when the distillery closed.

It was worked through the pot stills for an oily, fruity make, for the malty, fruity make Dallas Dhu was known for. A bourbon barrel held it, vanilla and a soft toffee over the oily malt. Through the evaporative decades the spirit concentrates, esters folding into dried fruit, wax and a warm spice. The malty, fruity spirit takes cask flavour well while keeping its oily, honeyed core. Single malt is rare, mostly from the Rare Malts series and Gordon and MacPhail. The Glasgow blenders Wright and Greig bought it before it opened, for their Roderick Dhu blend, and gave it the name Dallas Dhu. Rather than demolish it, Historic Scotland preserved it whole, opening it to the public in 1988. With Dallas Dhu silent since 1983, every bottle draws on a finite, dwindling stock.

At a full 60.6% it is bold yet fruity. Malt, dried fruit and a soft toffee, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A dried fruit and a soft oak give it depth. Apple, honey and a soft oak see out the finish. This is a finite single malt from the lost Dallas Dhu distillery.
