Description
Blended Scotch Whisky 1977 PST TB/BSW (Phil & Simon Thompson) is a blended Scotch from Phil & Simon Thompson. It marries malt and grain whiskies, with Speyside malt such as Dailuaine for a honeyed core. Its rich, robust malt has long been a backbone of the Johnnie Walker blends.
Dailuaine's smooth, sweet malt is the kind that built Johnnie Walker. First fill bourbon gave a fuller vanilla over the robust spirit. Maturation in the cool north east keeps the rich spirit balanced over the years. Most Dailuaine goes quietly into blends, a robust filler kept in part as single malt. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation, the heavy malt deepening. The distillery was founded in 1852 by William Mackenzie on the banks of the Spey at Carron. Its big stills give a heavy, full bodied spirit that takes sherry wood especially well. Refill oak lets the robust Dailuaine character lead, malt and dried fruit beneath.
At 40.3% it is gentle, sweet and fruity. Soft orchard fruit, honey and a gentle spice run through it, smooth and approachable. Dried fruit, malt and a savoury spice fill the middle. The finish is deep, rich and savoury. A characterful blended Scotch.
