Description
From the bottler Meadowside Blending, a 14 year old Dailuaine, distilled in 2008, from cask 304268, bottled at 49.7%, one of 282 bottles. Dailuaine is a full bodied Speyside malt of real depth, mostly bottled by independents. The name is Gaelic for the green vale, after the hollow in which the distillery sits.
The spirit was drawn off three wash and three spirit stills, for a rich, meaty make that suits sherry wood. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood adding vanilla and a soft honey. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the malt, the heavy body fuller and richer. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the rich, malty core over the years. It sits near Aberlour, in the heart of Speyside by the River Spey. The full bodied make rewards a long, patient maturation in good wood. The distillery was founded in 1852 by William Mackenzie on the banks of the Spey at Carron.
At cask strength 49.7% it is full bodied. A heavy, malty fruitiness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. It is robust and fruity, the full bodied spirit shining through. The finish is long, rich and savoury. This is the rich, full bodied Speyside malt of Dailuaine.
