Blended Scotch Whisky 1976 MBl The Maltman (Meadowside Blending) is a blended Scotch from Meadowside Blending. It marries malt and grain whiskies, with Speyside malt such as Dailuaine for a honeyed core. Most of its make goes to blending, with a Flora and Fauna sixteen year old the regular single malt.

Dailuaine's smooth, sweet malt is the kind that built Johnnie Walker. An Oloroso hogshead lent fig, raisin and a savoury, nutty depth, the heavy spirit soaking it up. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the meaty malt. The big stills give a heavy spirit that takes a long, sherried maturation in its stride. Its rich, robust malt has long been a backbone of the Johnnie Walker blends. Refill oak lets the robust Dailuaine character lead, malt and dried fruit beneath. It had its own railway siding and a little locomotive, Dailuaine No.1, known as the Puggy.

At an approachable 46.2% it is soft and easy. Soft orchard fruit, honey and a gentle spice run through it, smooth and approachable. It is robust and fruity, the full bodied spirit shining through. A long, full finish carries a savoury depth. A characterful blended Scotch.
