This Craigellachie was bottled by the bottler Whiskyfacile, a 14 year old, distilled in 2009, from cask 90305000, bottled at 53.4%, one of 300 bottles. Craigellachie is an old fashioned Speyside malt, full bodied and sulphurous in youth, tropical with age. The official range runs a thirteen, seventeen and twenty three year old, with rare older bottlings.

Distilled for the heavy, meaty spirit Craigellachie is known for, building the old fashioned Craigellachie style. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the heavy spirit. By the integrating teens the sulphur fades and esters build, pineapple and wax growing over the oily spirit. Refill oak lets the muscular Craigellachie character lead, malt and tropical fruit beneath. Most of its make still goes to blending, a robust filler prized for its weight. Long ageing turns the young, sulphurous spirit towards mango, wax and a warm spice.

At a hearty 53.4% it carries real weight. A heavy, oily maltiness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run meaty malt, tropical fruit and a waxy oil. A long, oily finish carries a tropical depth. This is an oily, tropical Speyside single malt.
